Salisbury Cathedral is perhaps Britain’s finest example of medieval architecture. Built between 1220 and 1258, the tallest spire in England was added a generation later and can be seen for miles. The surrounding Close is perfectly preserved and is still locked at night. The Chapter House has a unique medieval frieze and an original 1215 Magna Carta.

The Wardrobe with its many period features, dates from 1254 and is also situated in the Close. It is known as The Wardrobe having been used as a clothing and document store by bishops in the 14th Century. The building now houses the Salisbury Museum of The Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment. The many and varied exhibits tell an absorbing story of the life of an English County Regiment. The Berniers Tea Room is situated next to The Wardrobe in a restored 16th Century coach house and offers home cooked food which can be served on the terrace in the summer.
