Welcome from Innsworth Station Commander
Foreword by Lt Colonel Nick Thomas QDG
Welcome to the latest edition of the Innsworth Station Community Guide. This guide is your reference to the many opportunities that are available to all of us who are stationed here in Imjin Barracks and wider. As a military community based in the centre of Gloucestershire there is much on offer for us to enjoy – this guide is designed to help signpost you to these opportunities and also act as a useful reference for the numerous services that are in place to support military personnel and their families.
Our local area has a wide variety of attractions ranging from sporting events (Gloucester Rugby, Cheltenham Football Club and the world-famous Cheltenham Racecourse) through to the Cotswolds, the Forest of Dean, and much in between. We are also fortunate to have good transport links by road, rail and air, making travel further afield easier. This makes Innsworth an ideal launch pad to get out into the South West and Wales. These areas contain many National Parks and also designated Areas of Outstanding National Beauty which offer a range of dramatic coastlines, moorland and hills to explore. For those drawn to the bright lights, Gloucester and Cheltenham provide ample opportunities for shopping and entertainment, whether it is theatre, cinema or eating out there are plenty of options. For those wanting to explore a little further the historic cities of Bristol, Cardiff and Bath, complete with its own Roman Baths and Georgian Architecture, are easily accessible.
Innsworth Station itself is the home of a strong community and has many facilities on offer. The Station has a Welfare Office, staffed with a number of experts and support staff who can provide plenty of additional information to complement this guide. There are also a range of locally negotiated discounts available for staff serving at Innsworth Station that the team can provide access to.
I hope you enjoy your time here and grasp the opportunities available while serving in this part of the UK.
