Waste Collection and Recycling


Waste Collection: Edinburgh City Council provides each house with three wheelie bins. Grey is for normal household waste and non-recyclables, brown is for garden waste and green is for recycling.

A blue box is provided for glass. There is also a small grey bin for food waste.

Recycling: Edinburgh has three community recycling centres(CRC) where you can deposit household waste and recycle.

They are located at the following locations:

Bankhead Avenue, Sighthill, EH11 4EA

Fillyside Road, Seafield, EH7 6RD

Old Dalkeith Road, Craigmillar, EH16 4TB

Opening hours:

08:00 – 19:00hrs Monday to Friday (all vehicles to have exited site by 19:30hrs)

08:00 – 17:30hrs Saturday and Sunday (all vehicles to have exited site by 18:00hrs)

In the event of severe weather conditions the sites maybe closed at short notice.


Waste collection: Midlothian Council provides each house with two wheelie bins and two recycling boxes. Black/Grey bin is for food waste and non-recyclables. Brown bin is for garden waste. Red box is for glass,bottles, and cans. Blue box is for paper. Bins are collected on a Wednesday on a rotating basis, one bin a week. Red and blue recycling boxes are collected every Wednesday.

Recycling: There are two Civic Amenity sites within Midlothian for the disposal of household refuse.

Opening hours:

Daily 10:00 – 16:15hrs
