AWS Community Development Worker
The Army Welfare Service (AWS) works with a diverse population of service personnel and their families. The AWS Community Support works closely with families seeking to minimise the disruption of working and living within the military and by providing services and specialist activities.
The Community Development Worker role is to establish and develop services and actively engage with service families and appropriate external agencies/partners. This may involve centre based, outreach and specialist programmes, depending on the needs of the community. The reward is providing a quality service which produces stronger, more resilient communities able to cope better with life in a military context.
The Community Development Worker will work with the community to produce a Community Profile, Needs Analysis and Action plan which will highlight the work to be undertaken.
This will be to deliver Play, Youth and Community provision to members of the service community. This may include the management of a centre, club or project. A key role is to recruit, train and support volunteers to assist in differing work sessions.
Within the wider community, the Community Development Worker is there to support service families in order to improve ther quality of life. This would including working directly with, or providing support and advice to, existing or new community groups.
The Community Development Worker is based within the Ashwell Building, alongside the HIVE and Regimental Welfare Officers.
