Each Commanding Officer is responsible for the welfare of the officers and Service persons of their unit. They are also responsible for the welfare of their families. We are fortunate in having a number of individuals and organisations concerning themselves with the welfare of Service families. The following notes are intended as a brief introduction.
The Army Welfare Worker (AWW)
The AWW assists the Welfare Support Officer AWS and is available to help families in a wide range of welfare matters. He is in regular contact with Unit Welfare Officer and with civilian authorities such as the Department of Social Security and the Bedfordshire Social Services Department.
SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity
SSAFA exists to help according to need all men and women serving, or who have served at any time, in the Armed Forces family, veterans, reserves and their families or dependants.
The Branch network and in-service committees on military bases operate world-wide, with its volunteers providing practical, emotional and financial support who experience with problems and difficulties, however personal and varied.
