Catterick Garrison is situated within the Richmondshire District Council area, and the Council is pleased to assist Army personnel and civilians with any enquiries about its services. In particular, the District Council is the civilian housing authority for the Catterick Garrison area, and enquiries about accommodation should be made to the Council, particularly regarding loans for the purchase, improvement or repair of property, and information regarding housing generally.
Refuse and Waste Disposal – Recycle for Richmondshire
The Waste Management section offer a wide range of refuse and recycling services to residents. Advice is also available on how to reduce, re-use and recycle waste.
Household refuse is collected in this area by Richmondshire District Council who provide all homes with a green box, a blue bag, a green wheelie bin and a grey wheelie bin. These can be collected from the HIVE or call 01748 829100 for delivery.
For recycling purposes refuse is sorted as follows:
Glass jars, glass bottles, food cans, drinks cans, aerosol cans, plastic bottles. No pyrex, window glass, broken glass, plastic tubs, pots or trays, plastic bags or yogurt cartons
Newspapers, magazines, catalogues, directories, office paper, envelopes, junk mail, yellow pages, plain and printed white or grey card and greetings cards.
No brown cardboard, pet food, washing powder, beer, soft drink or wine boxes.
If you would like to receive garden waste collections, you will need to pay a subscription charge and your bin must display a valid licence. For further information please call 01748 828777.
Grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, leaves, weeds, plants, small branches, dead flowers, bark/wood shavings.
No food waste, logs/thick branches, cardboard, drink cartons, plastic/metal/glass, dog/cat droppings or soil, stones and ash.
All non-recyclable household waste.
No garden waste, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles, food/drinks cans, paper and white or grey card.
Refuse and recycling are collected on the same day every week - all recyclable waste one week, and alternating with non-recyclable waste the other week.Collection calendars can be picked up from the HIVE or ask your neighbour what day and which containers are due for collection on your estate, or ring the Helpline on: 01748 829100

Containers must be presented at the kerbside, by 0730 hrs on the scheduled collection day.
If there is a Bank Holiday your collection day may be changed, please check the above website or your collection calendar. A revised schedule for Christmas and New Year will be publicised in the local press and on the above website.
There are recycling skips outside Tesco on Richmondshire Walk for plastic bottles, all cardboard, paper, cans, glass, drink cartons, textiles and shoes, books and music. For disposal of old furniture and electrical items and other miscellaneous domestic waste use the Household Waste Recycling Centre at Brompton on Swale.
This is open 6 days a week including Sundays (closed on Wednesdays).
Registration Services in Catterick Garrison
North Yorkshire County Council runs the Registration Service in North Yorkshire. Our team of friendly, professional registrars can help you through the processes of registering a birth, death, civil partnership, or civil marriage.
Every Monday and Wednesday morning from 0930-1130 hrs, by appointment only, one of our registrars is at Catterick Garrison Library. Here you are able to register a birth or a death.
