Introduction

Catterick Garrison is served by one of the largest Army Education Centres in the British Army. Co-located with Infantry Training Centre in Vimy Barracks, it provides mandatory military education and opportunities for Personal Development for the wider Service community.

General Information

Mandatory education courses for soldiers are provided throughout the year. This includes the AEC components of the Command, Leadership and Management (CLM) programme. The Junior Officer Leadership Programme (JOLP) and Military Analysis (MA) courses are held at our satellite Army Learning Centre in York.

Service leavers can gain support and advice from the Resettlement Team, headed by the Individual Education and Resettlement Officer (IERO). Briefings and workshops are held on a regular basis.

For soldiers requiring Functional Skills support there is a dedicated department providing Literacy and Numeracy workshops and intensive courses. Dyslexia support is also available with our qualified advisors offering screening and learning support. All of the courses are free of charge.

There is also an Electronic Learning Centre (e-LC) that is open to MOD Personnel and their dependants. This is a 10 computer IT suite, where users can gain access to a wide variety of courses via the Internet, such as Learn Direct and ECDL.

Language and Culture training opportunities can be provided to serving personnel, regular and reserve.Anyone interested in furthering their individual and/or unit language capability should contact the 3 AEC language lead for information, advice and guidance.

Personal Development interviews for serving soldiers and officers can be arranged either with the IERO or one of the AGC (ETS) officers. Advice can be given on a wide range of courses including the Open University, FEHE Scheme and numerous other educational courses. Remember, funding of up to £175 per year using your Standard Leaning Credit (SLC) is available for every serving soldier and officer. If you have registered you may be able to use your Enhanced Learning Credit (ELC) for higher level courses.
