Army Welfare Service (AWS)

Mission

To provide a comprehensive, professional and confidential welfare support service responsive to the needs of individuals, families and the chain of command in order to maximise the operational effectiveness of Service personnel.

Personal Support (PS)

PS staff provide accessible, independent, confidential and professional specialist welfare services to Service personnel and their families; and in doing so strengthen and enhance the resilience and resourcefulness of Service personnel and their families. Specialist advice is also provided to the Chain of Command and outside agencies and is delivered by Army Welfare Workers (AWWs) and Personal Recovery Unit Social Workers.

Community Support (CS)

Community Support, through its Community Support Development Workers (CSDWs), secure or directly provide learning and personal development opportunities for military personnel and their families wherever they are living. Non formal education opportunities are provided within Community, Youth and Play Centres and Projects to children, young people and their families throughout the year and across the UK and overseas. CS delivers additional activities during school holidays, including Easter and Summer programmes and off site residential experiences. CSDWs adopt best practice, compliant with Government legislation and guidelines, and in doing so promote a stronger sense of community and wellbeing.

AWS operates a strict confidentiality policy, in accordance with legal requirements. 

Services Cotswold Centre (SCC)

The Services Cotswold Centre is a Tri-Service short-term family accommodation facility delivered by the AWS. It has capacity for up to 60 families (including two disabled units) and is available to all ranks from all three Services who may be between assignments, retiring from the Services, be in need of a family holiday / weekend break, or any other reason including welfare or emergency evacuation from overseas. WRVS

AWS sponsors the WRVS Services Welfare staff to assist Commanding Officers in providing welfare support to single and unaccompanied soldiers in military establishments in UK, Germany, Canada, Cyprus, Northern Ireland and the Falklands Islands. Together with units, they provide leisure facilities in a non-alcoholic environment and a place for soldiers to relax away from the work environment.
